The Ekadashi which falls during Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the Moon) in the auspicious month of Shravan is called Kamika Ekadashi.
Kamika Ekadashi is considered to be an auspicious day to worship Lord Vishnu. Worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day washes away all sins and helps to attain salvation. It also helps to acquire Punya which is equal to that obtained by performing an ‘Ashwamedha Yaga’ or donating a cow or performing Yagnas.
It is said that if someone keeps the Kamika Ekadashi fast, he receives immense benefits and gets relieved from the sins.If someone worships Lord Vishnu with Tulsi leaves on the day of Kamika Ekadasi, the person gets free from Pitru Dosha.The Kamika Ekadasi fulfills the desires of the devotees.
Devotees take bath early morning and then pray to Lord Vishnu. Panchamrut Abhishek is offered to Lord Vishnu.He is worshiped with colorful flowers, Tulsi leaves, fruits, milk and sesame seeds. Devotees donate lamps, clothes, and money to Brahmins.
They keep Jagaran on Ekadashi night and spend their time in singing bhajans and reading Holy Scriptures. Devotees break their fast on Dwadashi, which is the next day of the Ekadashi.
Visiting various pilgrim centers also taking a bath in a holy rivers is also done on this day.It is believed that devotees who fast and performs night vigil on Kamika Ekadashi never experiences the anger of Yamaraj, the God of Death.
