Reiki (Pronounced Ray-Key) is the healing- by- touch technique thousand of years old. It is thought to have originated as Tibetian Buddhist practice that was rediscovered in the late 1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. Reiki reached the western world in the late 1970s. Reiki treatment is very simple yet powerful technique that can be easily given by anyone. Reiki is a holistic therapy that addresses the body, mind and soul going beyond symptoms to treat the root cause of the disease. It helps us maintain balance in our health and that of others. It not only help maintain good health but is also helpful in changing attitudes, in dealing with others, in making others help you, in improving your luck. It helps to cure past, Present and Future lives.
The word Reiki comes from two words Rei and Ki. Rei is the upper Japanese Kanji character, as given below:
Rei: Spiritual Wisdom
The word Rei means universal and this is the definition most have accepted. However it is also being indicated by divine practitioners that this interpretation is a very general one. The kanji ideograms have seven levels of meaning. They vary from mundane to the highly esoteric. So while it is true that Rei can be interpreted as universal, meaning that is present everywhere.
Research into esoteric meaning of the Japanese kanji character for Rei has given a much deeper understanding of this ideogram. The word Rei as it is used in Reiki is more accurately interpreted to mean supernatural knowledge or spiritual consciousness. This is the wisdom that comes from God or the Higher Self. This is the God Conciousness which is all knowing. It understands each person completely. It knows the cause of all problems and difficulties and knows what to do to heal them.
Ki: The Life Force
Ki means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Mana in Hawaiian. It has also been called, odic force, orgone and bioplasma. It has been given many other names by the various cultures that have been aware of it.
Ki is the life force. It is also called the vital force or the universal life force. This is the non physical energy that animates all living things. As long as something is alive, it has life force circulating through it and surrounding it, when it dies the life force departs. If your life force is low, or if there is restriction in its flow, you will be more vulnerable to illness. When it is high and flowing freely, you are less likely to get sick. Life force plays an important role in everything we do. It animates the body and also is the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life
The Chinese place great importance on the life force or what they call Chi. They have studied it for thousands of years and have discovered there are many different kinds of Chi. The Yellow Emperors Classic of International Medicine, which is over 4000 years old, lists thirty –two kinds of Chi.
Ki is used by martial artists in their physical training and mental development. It is used in meditative exercises called Pranayama, and by the shamans of all cultures for divination, psychic awareness, manifestation and healing. Ki is the non physical energy used by all healers. Ki is present all around us and can be accumulated and guided by the mind.
Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy:
It is God Consciousness called Rei that guides the life force called Ki in the practice we call Reiki. Therefore Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life force energy. This is a meaningful interpretation of the word Reiki. It more closely describes the experience most people have of it; Reiki guiding itself with its own wisdom and being unresponsive to the direction of the practitioner.
Can Never Cause Harm:
Because Reiki is guided by the God Consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never need to worry whether to give Reiki or not as it is always helpful.
Bipolar Nature Of Reiki:
Clairvoyant observation has indicated that Reiki is bipolar in nature. It is made up of both male and female healing energies. The male part comes from above. It is associated with the crown and higher chakras and is called Shiva in the Tantra System. The female part comes from below, is associated with the root chara and is called Shakti in the Tantra System. These two energies communicate with each other and decide how much of each polarity is needed so that when the energies leave the hands, they have the proper combination of male and female healing energies for the person being treated.
How does Reiki Heal?
We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feeling about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and changing them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus, allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
What can be treated?
Reiki is both powerful and gentle. In its long history of use it has aided in healing virtually every known illness and injury including serious problems like multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and cancer as well as skin problems, cuts, bruises, broken bones, headache, colds, flu, sore throat, sun burn, fatigue, insomnia, impotence, poor memory, lack of confidence etc. It is always beneficial and works to improve the effectiveness of all other types of therapy. A treatment feels like wonderful glowing radiance and has many benefits for an individual including altered state of consciousness and spiritual experiences.
Reiki is capable of healing anything because it works at very fundamental levels of reality. Even though the capability is there, this is not what always happens. The limits to Reiki seem to be in the recipient’s willingness to cast off old habits and patterns, to accept change and to accept healing. Emotional difficulties are just as healable as physical ones since emotional issues are even more directly present in the energy structures.
If an individual has health conditions and wants to be treated with Reiki, It is recommended that they do so under the supervision of an experienced and enlightened Reiki Practitioner. Reiki will improve the results of all medical treatments, acting to reduce negative side effects, shorten healing time, reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and help create optimism.
